I don't usually like to take sides. But I'm in full agreement with black on this one.

...I would have switched the optimistic and pessimistic viewpoints, so am I misunderstanding what exactly the issue is?

Black is the pessimistic because he's against slavery (which is the title). Optimistic and pessimistic are relative. Keep in mind the pessimistic isn't always wrong or evil.

...Oh. Oh, I see.
"Pessimistic" means "against whatever the title is" and "optimistic" means "in favor of whatever the title is".
But does that mean that by simply rephrasing the question, one could get optimism and pessimism to be reversed?

Yep you got. For instance, if this comic name was slavery is bad. the black and yellow would be reversed.

It's basically the Kelso-Cox relationship. Kelso-"Beautiful day." Cox-"One of the worst I've seen." Kelso-"The papers you wrote are fantastic" Cox-"They're black urine on a piece of fake paper I put together at 5 AM"
